I'm hoping to see the build sheet for 53895. Current owner believes it's from 1918. Thanks for any help.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 53895 is an 18 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Ideal model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, half ribs, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between April and July, 1919. The original exterior paint color was dark green with a half inch gold stripe and Greek ends. This may have looked similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/greek.gif but with different colors. It shipped on July 9th, 1919 to Waterbury, Connecticut. The stern end was crushed and it returned for repairs on September 24th, 1919. It went back for more repairs on September 9th, 1936. Both of these repairs are detailed on the back side of the card. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. The bow deck of this canoe from 2018 is shown at https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/40315/ and the serial number is attached below. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
