Old Town serial number 180501

I called OT this morning looking for info on my 18 foot F.G. (fiberglass) canoe. The guy told me that my serial number, 180501 is not in it's proper chronological order in his scanned database. I was so disappointed!

He was able to tell me that it was built in 1968, and he confirmed my research findings that it is an "F.G." model, in jade green with white trim. I got it from a man who was selling it on consignment for an elderly gentleman, who was probably the original purchaser. It looks like it was well cared for and then sat upside down long enough to grow a full coat of lichen and a few small moss bits. Pics are of it half clean, and then the small amount of wear on its keel.

Would any of you wonderful folks out there be willing to look for it? He said that not all records were scanned or some were damaged in a fire so I'm not sure if it would be a wild goose chase or not. I'm hoping it is just in the back of the record, scanned out of order.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 180501 is an 18 foot long FG (fiberglass) model that weighed 90 pounds. It was built in April, 1968. The original exterior gelcoat colors were white on the deck with jade on the hull. It shipped on June 14th, 1968 to Kittery, Maine. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe, but that doesn't seem likely. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
