Good day, I've recently acquired an Old Town Canoe that I'm looking for more info on (year made, any additional info). It has an aluminum serial number plate reading XTC26848179L . It states "Tripper" on the side along with "Old Town" and beneath that "Oltonar"

Thank you-
R.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 226848 and hull identification number XTC26848179L is a 17 foot long Chipewyan Tripper model with aluminum inserts in the rails that weighed 79 pounds. It was built in June, 1979. The original exterior color was green. It shipped on July 17th, 1979 to Rockville, Maryland. The back side of this scan shows that it had some rough skin and stains on the outside of the hull along with some vinyl skin breaks on the inside which were painted over. It was purchased on July 20th, 1979 and the warranty card was returned from Columbia, Maryland. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will contribute, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
