Old Town Canoe - S# 132819 16

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 132819 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between June, 1941 and June, 1942. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design10.gif which was known as the design number 10. It shipped on June 9th, 1942 to Pittsburgh, Penna. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or be from another manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe during a detailed inspection. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson - thank you! This information matches what my grandfather had told me years ago.

I’m likely going to try to sell it locally, and would be happy to donate to WCHA if I do.
