Hi, hoping someone could provide me with some information on the canoe I just bought today. It's an Old Town Camper with serial number of 220976. It says on the side of the canoe that it was made with Oltonar. Thank you!

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 220976 is a 16 foot long, Chipewyan Camper model with aluminum inserts in the rails that weighed 69 pounds. It was built in March, 1978. The original exterior vinyl color was green. It shipped on March 28th, 1978 to West Simsbury, Connecticut. The back side of the scan indicates that it had bubbles on the inside of the bow and stern, hard bubbles on the outside of the stern, and a skin break on the inside. Scans showing both sides this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. More information about your canoe is available from http://www.wcha.org/store/complete-old-town-canoe-company-catalog-collection in the scanned catalogs. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
