Old Town Build Record

I would like to know some information about an Old Town Canoe. It is a S/N 14748. It is a beautifully restored 15ft Old Town that looks like it may have been shipped around 1910.

Thanks in advance.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 14748 is shown as 15 feet long, CS (common sense or standard) grade, 50 Pound model with western red cedar planking, spruce gunwales and finish rails and decks, ash seats and thwarts, and equipped with a keel. The canoe was also equiped for sailing, with a mast thwart and step, a lateen sail and a pair of leeboards. A pair of spruce paddles was also shipped with the canoe. The canoe was built between June and July 1910 and the original exterior paint was dark blue. It was shipped to Camden, Maine in July of 1910 (pretty certainly, although the date is not fully readable). A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
