Old Town 50 Pounder

Well the ad requested calls only, but a few hours after I emailed (with an explanation) the seller responded with a pic of the Ser # and a promise of more pics next week.

The explanation is that I'm Overseas and there's a 7 hour time difference.

According to the ad, its a 1964 "Classic" possibly a 50 Pounder. Since I've not seen a Classic model in the OT records here, I'll assume he means a classic canoe, cause its old.

So can our resident keeper of the Serial Number Flame help me out with this one?

The Old Town canoe with serial number 192820 is a 15 foot long lightweight model with a keel. It was built between January and July, 1973. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 11th, 1973 to Shrewsbury, Mass. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. This model is currently know as the trapper and was formerly the fifty pound model but the forms are the same. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Seller has the year wrong, but everything else seems to match up.

Oddly enough, I was 14 or 15 then and in Oct 73 the family moved into a Dk Green house. A few Mainers may recall the odd shaped green house on the Bar Harbor Rd, in Holden just outside of Brewer.

After downloading the one pic from the ad and zooming in I see the diamond head bolts and it might look as if the canvas is off already. Could make a fun project.

I'm going to wait (as patiently as possible) for the pics.
