Looking for info on this canoe.
Welcome, it is my sad duty to report that the scanned Old Town records stop just over 250,000 in 1984 so no one here can provide more detailed information for your serial number 288046. It should have a hull identification number on the starboard stern that begins with XTC and ends with an encoded date. The information at http://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf may help you interpret this information. Let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help. Good luck,
Well dang. I was hoping to get the model info. It’s wood with a fiberglass covering. And it needs a love but I’m new to wood boats
We can probably figure it out if you post some pictures with the basic dimensions (length, width, and depth). A profile shot of the bow and one of the hull identification number tag could also be especially helpful. Thanks,
Here are some pics. main areas I’m concerned about are keel, the cracks in the epoxy and the dark areas at the bow and stern. I’d also like to get rid of the hazy finish. Do I need to re varnish the inside? This canoe has been used as decor in a conditioned restaurant for at least a couple decades. 17’ long. 35.5” wide. 12” high.
The chart at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/oldtown_chart.html indicates that your canoe was probably made around 1987. It appears that the hull identification number from the starboard stern has been removed. The model is most likely an Otca as shown in the catalog page below. More information like this is available from http://www.wcha.org/store/complete-old-town-canoe-company-catalog-collection in the scanned catalogs. It could use some new varnish on the inside and outside. The hazy finish is not likely to go away, this comes with age and exposure to sunlight. The dark area in the stern tip is rot which will take some work to repair. Good luck with the project,
