Old Town 214773

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 214773 is a 17 foot long Chipewyan model with aluminum inserts in the gunwales that weighed 77 pounds. It was built in September, 1976. The original exterior color was blue. It shipped on December 28th, 1976 to Poughkeepsie, New York. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the response!

Do you have knowledge about the Old Town Tripper and the Chipewyan? The attached document you posted in another thread seem to show the 17 ft Chipewyan referred to as the Tripper model. Are the the terms interchangeable, or is there a difference?

Yes, the 17 foot long Chipewyan was also known as the Tripper model. These terms are interchangeable and there is no difference. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question.
