Hello, new here but excited to find the wealth of info available. Just purchased an Old town canoe with #112365. Appears to be a 1930's model. Wondering if able to obtain build record. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 112365 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between February and June, 1933. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 12th, 1933 to Frankfort, Kentucky(?). A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much for your timely response. Was excited to see reply this morning. I did buy it in Frankfort, Ky. My canoe currently does not have much green it. Maybe on some of the wood. I would have guessed original color orange or white. Nevertheless, dark green it is. Wondering, what a 1933 dark green old town canoe would had looked like. For example, accent colors/stripes. Also, what kind of decals and where would they have been placed. Thanks again.

See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/7345/ for some period paint chip cards. Kirby's paint at https://kirbypaint.com/ has a "#12 Bottle Green" which is very close to the traditional Old Town dark green. Any good marine enamel would probably be fine. The standard Old Town designs at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/thumbnal.html and http://www.wcha.org/content/old-town-canoe-company-color-design-poster should help with your choice of "accent colors/stripes." A decal like the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/store/old-town-deck-decal-1906-1954 would have been on the bow deck as Craig mentioned. Let us now what you decide or if you have other questions. Thanks,

Benson
