The tag shows a hull identification number which can be interpreted with the instructions from http://www.hinsearchplus.com/hs_userguide.aspx for more details. The GRV at the beginning indicates that it was made by G & R Industries in Auburn, Massachusetts (near Worcester). The page at http://uscgboating.org/content/manufacturers-identification-detail.php?id=20926 has more information. The 86K on the end means that it was made in June, 1986. This company used to have a web site at http://www.greatcanadian.com/ but it appears that they have permanently closed. This is both a real canoe and one that replicates the more traditional wood and canvas ones. Feel free to reply here if this doesn't answer your question.

Awesome and Thank you Benson. The house is by Newfound Lake - perhaps I should give it a try. Been a long time since Canoe trips to Quatico Provincial Park. But so damn rewarding to be out on the lakes....

Thanks again for the swift and thorough response.
