In my hast, I didnt use any kind of sealant when installing the gudgeons on my canoe. The lower one looks very close to the waterline too. I used the original mounting holes and didnt see any sealant installed by OT. Am I asking for trouble?

What kind of fasteners did you use? Are they into wood? If you can, remove them, add sealant, and replace. If you cannot, buy a tube of GOOP Marine Sealant, warm it up a bit to thin it--I let mine sit on my dashboard when it's hot enough--and apply it to the points where the parts and fasteners meet the boat.

rivets

I machined some tube rivets and I'm afraid its a done deal, not taking them out now.

Go with the GOOP. Make sure the center holes are filled, too. It's great stuff and will keep its seal for a long, long time.
