Herrshoff One-Design Decked Sailing Canoe ca. 1935

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Has anyone seen, built, or sailed a decked sailing canoe designed by L. Francis Herreshoff and proposed by the ACA in 1934-35 as a one-design decked canoe for cheaper entry into decked canoe sailing, and as an alternative and/or complement to the (then) recently agreed International Decked Canoe? See sail and construction plan for Herreshoff one-design at http://dragonflycanoe.com/aca1935/ACA1935.pdf.

I am not aware of any that survive, or that any were even built. It's on my bucket list to see if these drawings are available anywhere...

Thanks, Dan. Even a higher resolution scan of p. 24 (the drawing) would be interesting, if one could read dimensions and notes. Let me know if anything turns up.

BTW, any idea whose Design Dept the original of the booklet was to be returned to, as indicated by the red stamp on the cover?

No idea where that booklet came from - at the time I borrowed it, and no idea what its provenance was. I have since gotten a copy of my own, and here is the scan. Still not terribly legible. Copies of the original drawings have been ordered.

If you are into studying cool designs, Uffa Fox's are worth looking at. His canoes marked the end of the 16/30 era and ushered in the IC10 era. Plans are in his five big books, and full size copies are available from uffafox.com

Check out Tim Gittins' pages of historical designs too. http://www.intcanoe.org/iclife/hist/dscttabl.htm

That canoe was a Herreshoff decked double-paddle canoe, but not a sailing canoe at all. See LFH's "Sensible Cruising Designs."

Dave passed away several years ago... not sure if Scottie still has this canoe or not.

Dan,

Thanks for the clarification on the Baker's Herreshoff canoe.
