Deck Dilemma

I am currently working on a Champlain high end that has some fairly nasty looking decks. It seems the decks where battered along with the stems. In an attempt to fix the problem it looks as if a brown epoxy was used to fill the damage and glue the decks to the inwales. I’m not so worried about the inwales, the tips need to be removed and the splicing fixed on them. The one deck still bears the remnants of the original sticker so I wasn’t sure if I should just scrap the decks and start fresh or use Rollin’s technique to splice and carve a new tip. Bare in mind I am restoring this canoe to factory specifications.

Thanks in advance.

Without seeing the damage, I’d say either way is fine. Making new decks is not that hard to do, especially since you have the old ones for a template.
