David Moses Bridges dies at 54

Birch bark canoe builder, artist, and advocate for Native rights David Moses Bridges has died.

So sorry to hear this. I had the good fortune of meeting and talking at length with David at an outdoor native American display on the Abbe museum grounds at Acadia NP. David and a helper were rebuilding a birch bark covered hut. Got talking WC and BB canoes as soon as David saw the WCHA hat I was wearing. David seemed to be an enthusiastic, dedicated person.

 

I met David when we were building a birchbark canoe together under the tutelage of Steve Cayard. He was a good guy and we will be forever linked by our love of birchbark canoes. I am saddened by his passing.
