The Coastal Southeast Chapter will hold a gathering at the Okefenokee Swamp in Southeastern Georgia, November 11-13. Everyone is invited, so if you want to come down from the north for a last reprieve before the cold, please join us! With average November highs in the low 70s F, average low temperatures around 50F, and low rainfall, this time of year is generally very nice there.

The Okefenokee Swamp includes 420,000 acres of State Park and National Wildlife Refuge. It is a spectacularly beautiful and primeval place with abundant paddling opportunities and outstanding wildlife. From Spanish moss-laden cypress trees to alligators, black bear, and a host of wading birds and raptors, this is a great place for paddling and natural photography even throughout the southern winter.

Stephen C. Foster State Park has nice cabins and abundant tent camping sites. See their website here:

More details to come.

NOTE DATE CHANGE!!!

Because of lodging issues during the planned dates, the Okefenokee gathering has been changed to December 2nd - 4th. We will meet at the Stephen C. Foster State Park, and weather records indicate that average highs for these dates are around 70F, lows in the mid 40s. For those of you up north, this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy some wonderful temperatures as home goes into the freezer. We'd love to have you join us. Through the park website you can reserve tent camping sites and cabins. The cabins are $150/night but they sleep 8, so the cost per person can be very reasonable if we group up. Tent camping is also very reasonably priced. Note that there is also availability in the Eco Lodge - this is not within the park but it's close by.
