LOVES Wooden Canoes
Have many of you done this and what advice could you give to me? What would be the thickness to use of the racks? Picking up a double ender that's missing them and would like to replace them. What type of wood did they use? Thanks

I made a floor rack for our Double Ender. It came with seat backs. You are welcome to come take a look. Send me a PM and we can set it up.

Here are a couple of pictures of a floor rack in a 17' OT HW -- they may be of interest in that they show the extra space down the middle, to allow for the mount for the toggles that hold the rack in place. The toggles themselves are made of short pieces of bang plate.

White cedar cross pieces, pre-bend the end ones to match the curve of the bottom, and western red for the slats. Most of the Old Town racks have slats that taper slightly toward the ends for a more refined look. PITA to stain and varnish!!
