Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi Benson.

Could you please show the build sheet for a 17' Molitor # 176155? If that doesn't seem to match try 178155.

Thank you!

Dennis Hansen, Spruce Head, ME.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 176155 is 17 foot long Molitor model with a keel, and outside stems. It was built between May and June, 1966. The original exterior paint color similar to the image at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design04.gif which was known as the design number four. It shipped on June 24th, 1966 to Norway, Maine. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Thanks Benson. This came home with me yesterday. Needs canvas and a few minor wood repairs.
Apparently it was a wedding gift to the original and only other owner from new. So very surprised
to find it.
