Best glue for an White Oak Scarf joint?

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I am replacing a 12 foot white oak keelson and need to use two pieces. I have the scarf joint cut, and intended to use thickened epoxy as the glue. However, I have heard some reports of problems with using epoxy on White Oak. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, what would be the best alternative? Thanks in advance.

In not a fan of epoxy as I'm not that experienced in using it. In your shoes I would use tightbond III and reenforce the joint by doweling it. That is drill 2-3 holes (depending upon length) thru both pieces where they are meant to be joined. You would not have to thru drill. Glue the scarf joint surfaces, glue the dowels in, and ir wont go anywhere

Use west systems Gflex epoxy. Wipe the oak with alcohol Wet it out (thin epoxy). More thickened epoxy. It is used by some major boat builders here in Maine for gluing up oak.. Cheers Mike....
