I bought my canoe at a camp in NH about 25 years ago. The serial number is 112102. I was wondering if someone could tell me the history of this canoe. I also noticed that the last two numbers of the serial number appear lighter than the first four numbers. This is true both in the bow and the stern. I assume that the first four numbers were stamped in advance and the next two numbers were added as each canoe was made.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 112102 is a 17 foot long, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak trim, a keel and a floor rack. It was built between January and August, 1933. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on August 16th, 1933 to Pinehurst Camp in Ashland, New Hampshire. Thanks so much for the information. I was so glad to hear that the original color was dark green. That's the color I painted it when I had it re-canvased. I'm a push-over for green canoes. I figured the canoe had floorboards at one time as the clips for attaching them are still intact. One of these days I would like to build floorboards to match the original condition. Do you have any ideas where I can find plans that would match the original?
