Welcome, the Old Town with serial number 137952 is a seven and a half foot long dinghy from 1943 and number 187952 went on a 16 foot long fiberglass FG model from 1972 so neither of them seem like a good match for a 16 foot long wooden Otca model. Can you send some pictures of the serial numbers from each end and a few showing the decks and interior of this canoe? Perhaps the number is 131952. I am looking at a craigslist ad
The Old Town canoe with serial number 131952 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, and a keel. It was built between March and July, 1941. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design43.gif which was known as the design number 43. Please attach some pictures if the original design is still showing. It shipped on August 5th, 1942 to Utica, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others.
