Russ,
Someone with the SN look-up data should be able to confirm but to my eye it appears to be a later Carleton.... odd that the length isn't showing on the stem? perhaps the photo cut it off. Are the thwarts secured with diamond head bolts?
For the price it looks to be in reasonable condition...if you have an interest in it you may want to grab it right away now that it's been advertised here:eek::eek:

The Old Town canoe with serial number 104668 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, a keel, and sponsons. It was built between January, and May 1930. The original exterior paint color was bright red with "Rose" in gold on the right and left bow. It was shipped on May 29th, 1930 to Lake George, New York. The back side of this card indicates that it may have moved to the Albany area by August 28th, 1985 when there was a previous request for a copy of this build record. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions and let us know if you get it.

Benson

Mike,
I'm "just looking." More curious than interested.

Sold off all of my wood canoes except for my 1934 Old Town 15' 50#. Covered it with Dacron and it only weighs 45#.

Going lighter and lighter these days - also picked up an 14' Hornbeck which needed minor work.
Nothing I'm going to keep weighs more than 60#.

Benson,
Thanks - was just curious. Maybe someone else would be interested and it will find a good home.

Hope to see you at the Assembly - sold the EM White Featherweight you identified for me last summer - too "tender" for me - needed a more agile owner.

Thanks again for all of your help over the years.
Russ
