Sail rig price?

Hi there,

Looking for an idea what an older (I think) Old Town lateen sail rig is worth complete. Has nylon sail, a the rest of the rig (mast, lee boards, rudder) are wood. It's in great shape. I don't sail and have no idea of the many of the sailing rig terms so bear with me. I really have no use for it and would like to sell it. I don't have any pictures right now but will try to get some over the next couple of days.

There are several different sailing rigs currently listed in the classifieds here for comparison at http://classifieds.wcha.org/ with and without a canoe. Some similar rigs have been listed on eBay several times this summer with high reserves but haven't drawn a bid over $255.

My experience is that most people are looking for a few pieces to fill out an existing sailing canoe so I would encourage you to price your equipment individually. It is unusual to find someone who wants a complete rig and highly unlikely that anyone will want everything that you have. I am currently looking for an old style mast while others are seeking gudgeons (the bronze rudder fastenings that mount on the canoe) and the bronze leeboard angle brackets for example. Good luck,

Benson, and others who have replied in various ways. Thank you for the info. I took the rig out tonight to take some photos of it. Using the measurements in your attachment I see that the sail is 55 square feet. Looks to have some bronze hardware on it and other hardware marked Schaefer. Looking at the original paperwork I have with it mentioning fiberglass canoes, would you put this rig from the 1970's? Does it look complete? Mast step and hardware to attach the rudder to the boat are still on the boat (which I have).

Yes, it looks complete and I agree that it probably dates from the 1970s. The hardware holding down the instructions don't appear to be required and probably didn't come with it. Your mast is much newer than the 117 inch one for a leg of mutton rig that I am seeking. Good luck,

Just curious, did you sell this rig? I know it's been a long time. I am seeking a complete rig for application to a 17 OTCA. THanks, Dave

sorry for the delay but I was away on vacation riding around in a Grand Laker canoe up in Maine. I'm afraid I no longer have this rig.
