In case you ever wind-up using a commercial outlet to ship a boat, I just shipped a kayak to the east coast using a fairly new company called K.A.S. Transport out of New York. It's a family operation run by two brothers, one of whom drives a big pickup towing a 30' canoe trailer. Nice guys and quite careful about loading and padding the boats properly. They are planning to run back and forth across the country on a regular basis and have pretty reasonable rates. I have years of horror stories from back when I was a canoe/kayak dealer about shipping boats with normal truck freight. It's really nice to find somebody who is interested in getting the boats delivered in one piece. Their phone number is (315) 986-1869 and e-mail is kastransport@earthlink.net. Worth writing on the shop wall for future reference.
