This 1924 OTCA AA grade, acquired last fall, is heading down the home stretch of restoration. 17 ribs have been replaced. Bow and stern decks and ends of inwales have been rebuilt. New planking is being added this week. Rollin Thurlow and his associate Pete have been most helpful and all supplies have been excellent. A local master boatbuilder, Alda Maturi, has done the difficult woodworking and supervised the rest. My 16-year-old daughter has done better work than I have.

Remaining work: fairing of hull, ends of gunwales, recanvassing, filling, painting, and varnishing. Cane seats are original and in good condition, and thus will be left for another time. Center thwart is missing; I will make another to replace it.

What about wood paddles? Any preferences?

Thanks for all the advice along the way. I will post many pictures as soon as I can figure out how to get larger files (2 mb) onto the site. Any ideas there?

As for wood paddles, I think you should make them yourself. What better way to complement all your restoration efforts? Graham Warren & David Gidmark's book "Canoe Paddles" is a great place to start. It's conveniently available right here at the WCHA store:

The messages at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=469 should help you add your pictures. The current maximum file size is 976.6 KB so you will need to crop or resize any image over two megabytes before attaching it here.

Another option is to make your own home page and just add a link here. See http://www.wcha.org/members/ and http://www.canoehullabaloo.com/beeby-canoe/intro.html for examples of this.
